I just got these lovely shirts from Ban T-Shirts. They are really nice quality and have great messages on them. The green one I’m wearing says:

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned, the last fish has been caught, will we realize that we can’t eat money.

I truely love this message and it is completely true. The blue shirt Krystal is wearing has a great message I also love which is:

The idea of the butterfly effect is that something as apparently insignificant as the beat of a butterfly’s wings can have a massive effect on atmospheric conditions, for example causing (or preventing) a tornado. This notion comes from chaos theory. If we extrapolate we can conclude that our own efforts, although they sometimes seem futile, can in fact have important and possibly magnificent consequences for the Earth and those around us. Hence, “beat your wings, change the world”

Ban T-shirts has some really good shirts with great messages. Oh and if you have strong views about stuff Ban T-shirts may not be the store for you. Heres a quote from their FAQ:

We make T-shirts with messages we believe in, we’re not here to present “all sides in the debate”. This isn’t just a job for us, it’s something we believe in. So if you’re looking for right-wing t-shirts or a shirt that says something offensive about immigrants or environmentalists, click off some place else.

Thanks for the shirts guys!

Snorgtees

hpim0404_0.jpg

Snorgtees sent me a few shirts so you will definitely see another plug about them in the future. In their own words:

SnorgTees got its start back in May 2004 when our group of friends decided that we weren’t meant for a real job. We got our options narrowed down to international jewel thieves or internet t-shirt tycoons. Since it was the middle of the summer, we weren’t able to find enough ski masks, which left t-shirts as our only option. Fast forward a few years and we’ve grown to the point where people mistake us for an actual business. We’ve even shipped a shirt to NASA. That means space. So technically we’re a universal company. But we are still just a group of friends who run Snorg because we enjoy it.

I really like Snorgtees. They have an easy concept which makes the buyers task very simple. Look through the designs on the home page, add the ones you want to your shopping cart and checkout. I think this is one of the key concepts a online t-shirt store must do in order to be successful. They could even go a step further by letting the buyer add shirts to their cart right from the homepage by using some ajax coding. This would keep the home page cleaner as the options could pop up once a buyer hovers their mouse over a particular design. Thanks for the shirts guys!

Wornfree

hpim0391.jpg

Wornfree is not your regular t-shirt website. They specialize in vintage designs worn by famous people.

In their own words:

Launched in 2005, Worn Free is a rock and roll T-shirt label with a simple mission: to resurrect the coolest shirts of all time.

Worn Free reproduces original tees famously worn by such rock legends as John Lennon, Joey Ramone, Frank Zappa, Blondie’s Debbie Harry, Gram Parsons, Johnny Ramone and Joan Jett, among others – and regularly adds fantastic new images (of fantastic old shirts) to its catalog.

Celebrating punk fury, hippie utopianism, psychedelic excess and art-pop whimsy – not to mention the eye-popping graphics of celebrated artists like John Van Hamersveld – Worn Free shirts express the insurrectionary spirit of rock and roll in all its forms.

We’ve spent more than a decade combing worldwide photo archives of music and style icons, learning what they’ve been wearing and bringing it straight to you.

Their t-shirts have special tags on them with a picture of the famous person who wore the shirt and a little story behind it. Their prices are a bit higher than the average t-shirt store but I can honestly say the quality of the shirts are very professional. If you enjoy vintage t-shirts or love rock and roll you should definitely check out Wornfree. Thanks for the t-shirts guys!

Threadless

Filed Under Plugs | Leave a Comment

hpim0374.jpg

I was recently surprised when Bob Nanna of Threadless sent me a very generous gift certificate to purchase a bunch of t-shirts. I picked out some shirts for myself and my girlfriend did as well. This is going to be the first of a few plugs I do for Threadless over time. There is lots to say about this great company but I want to start out by talking about how they got started. Heres a direct quote from Threadless:

Threadless was created by Jake Nickell and Jacob DeHart. They came up with the idea after Jake Nickell won the NMUF London tee shirt competition. It felt good to win a tee shirt competition and we thought it’d be cool to extend that to the level that Threadless has become.

Threadless is a company of skinnyCorp and they recently opened their first store in Chicago. What makes Threadless so cool is that the t-shirt designs are created by users. Anyone can submit a design which is then voted on by users for a period of 7 days and if it gets enough votes it might just get printed. If your design is chosen you will receive a cash prize and a gift certificate to purchase some of your shirts. You will also be mentioned on the website and may become famous!

Lijit

Filed Under Plugs | 2 Comments

hpim0367_0.jpg

Lijit is more than just the average search tool for your website. They have revolutionalized the way search is done. You may be thinking how much more can you enhance the all so common search box on a website. Instead of rewording how it works heres an exerpt from the Lijit website:

What if, when your readers searched you, their search would also include results from your social network and everything those people have created too?

Not only would their search return your blog posts and bookmarks, but it would also return blog posts your colleagues and friends have written about LCD vs. Plasma technology, bookmarks they’ve made about great sites to purchase HDTVs, and posts from blogs they read that discuss HTDV programming.

Using the power of people, their content, and their connections, Lijit enhances the way your readers search for and discover information on the internet. You serve as a filter for all of the results your readers could possibly receive, ensuring they only receive the most relevant results from the source they trust…YOU.

I wrote a post on my personal blog a little while back about how Lijit’s Community Catalyst Jacqueline Malan helped me customize the Lijit widget. I had just started using Lijit and sent their support an email looking for some help. I was shocked to see a response no more than 5 minutes later with code to customize it how I had asked, how awesome is that? I appreciate when companies, especially free ones, actually care about their users and make sure to answer every email and not just with some automated response. Thanks to Jacqueline Malan for the t-shirts.

ThinkGeek

hpim0293.jpg

The name pretty much says it all. ThinkGeek.com is a website with basically everything a geek could want. When I say everything a geek could want I literally mean EVERYTHING. They have hundreds of gadgets, apparel, computer accessories and even caffeinated products. I don’t think theres many things on that website that I wouldn’t buy, their selection is that good. ThinkGeek has been around since 1999 and the staff consists of 13 employees and even 2 dogs.

I still can’t believe just how many unique products they have. They have an ongoing contest called action shots where they give a $100 gift certificate to the person who submits the best action shot wearing or using their products. Thanks a lot for the shirt guys, I love it.

NSDesign

hpim0288.jpg

In their own words:

NSDesign is a web design company in Glasgow, which does a lot more than just web design! Established in 1999, and now based in the award winning Hillington Park Innovation Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, our superb range of web design, domain registration, web hosting and SEO products, combined with our competitive prices and unrivalled customer care makes us the obvious choice for your business internet requirements.

They have a pretty clean and professional looking website. They seem to be doing well considering they won an award in July and another back in 2007. Their rates for hosting plans seem to be reasonable for low traffic websites. I am not too familiar with prices for budget hosting plans considering I use a dedicated server for most of my websites (well except this one since I figured I would test out hostgator).

The t-shirt is not that bad looking and I ended up wearing it for the entire day. I was mistake when I first wrote this, they do in fact have an affiliate program which is good to help increase sales. Other than that NSDesign looks like a real solid company that has been around for a while so I would definitely check them out. Thanks for the t-shirt guys!

hpim0287.jpg

I have to admit when I got this shirt in the mail my first thought was “what the hell is this”. Most people send me an email to let me know they are sending a shirt but I never got one from Freaky Freddie’s. So instead of just being completely judgmental like I usually am I went over and checked out the website. According to who.is the domain was registered in 1998 and by the looks of it the site hasn’t had a redesign since then. I really think I need to be brutally honest because whats the point in beating around the bush and just telling people everything is good, when if it’s not your not helping them at all. Any criticism is better than no criticism in my opinion.

Although the website lacks design and the t-shirt is very…vibrant to say the least, Freaky Freddie’s does have a useful amount of free stuff and they claim to get over 4500 unique visitors a day which is pretty good. With traffic like that I think they could make a lot more from advertising if they just spiced the website design up a bit. I’m not a huge fan of the t-shirt design but the print and color quality is pretty nice. I think Freaky Freddie’s is an alright freebie site and with a website redesign it could be much more profitable.

I got this t-shirt a little while back from Captain Morgan (and the dog tags but you can’t really see them) and I must say it is a very nice looking shirt, I am a big fan of tanned color shirts. I know your probably wondering where I got the barrel from. Well to be honest I don’t want to reveal where it’s from only because I plan on using it again to do a plug in the future for one of my favorite beer companies. Actually I may even hold a contest to whoever can guess the beer company that is on the other side of the barrel will win a t-shirt or something.

Anyways so back to Captain Morgans. Personally I LOVE spiced rum but I find it’s one of those you either love it or hate it type of things. For instance I know someone who always just orders rum and coke. Theres a particular bar she goes to all the time and after about a year she found out they served Captain Morgans as their default rum. When she found this out she was disgusted because apparently she doesn’t like it. But my question is why in the hell would she care if it never bothered her before she knew? Clearly if you drank it for a year and never complained then you must not mind it that much. Some things are just all in our heads. It’s why company branding is so important, you just need to convince people that because your ketchup says Heinz on it they should spend an extra dollar compared to the boring looking bottle that has the EXACT same ketchup in it. Good job Captain Morgans, I love the pirate logo/stance.

I want to first off say HP didn’t send me this t-shirt for this particular reason. I got it a while back but I wanted to do a plug for HP anyways (like they need it) because I am a huge fan of their products. I own a HP PC, Laptop and Camera. Hewlett-Packard has always been reliable and good to me. For instance my camera stopped working a while ago so I sent it in to get fixed and they just sent me a brand new one with no questions asked. That kind of service is what will create loyal customers.

Hp doesn’t really need an introduction nor do most people really care to read a little bit about it’s history. Well if you do you can always check out their website. I know a lot of hardcore computer geeks will say how they would not buy an HP and that’s fine. To be honest I just don’t have the patience to buy all the parts and put a PC together myself when I can go to the store and buy one already made and have it running as soon as I get home. I would say from my personal knowledge that HP is a good brand for the average home user at a reasonable price.
